The Project Proposal
For my final project and as part of my aspirations to become a script or screen writer, I’d like to write a script for a short film that discusses the various moralities and liabilities a man can have at the verge of death and mental collapse. It is easy to say that people are morally obligated to do certain things, but what if their life is at stake? Moreover, I want this story to be set in a zone where basic human decency is already at a low point, the setting being inside a prison.
The story will follow a protagonist who has “lost it all” due to his own psychological problems and it will end in his potential rehabilitation. I plan on developing multiple characters, including the antagonist of the script. I plan on bringing multiple moralities such as the price of crime, the importance of alliances and companionship (note that friendship is on the nose in this script), the worth of a human life and so on. I’d like the story to end on a good ending, that being the protagonist changes for the better and learns something from his time in prison in order to truly atone for his mistakes. It’s worth noting that I want the main character to redeem himself not by sitting in prison for a particular duration of time, but for his actions when facing obstacles that threaten his wellbeing. That is why I’m debating whether or not I will even mention the crime or the sentence the main character has received, I will see to it later. The prospective title of my script will be: “The Mutual Fists”.

For this script, I will be basing a lot of themes on the thought of self-identity as the characters I will write will hopefully develop as the story progresses and will discover a higher state of living than their original. Some may fall and others rise, but the main goal is for everyone or most to change in some way or another, that being especially true for the protagonist.
In order to physically write the script, I plan on using FadeIn, which is a script writing software that is available for free or for one-time payment of about 100$. For now, I plan on using the free version, as the paid version’s biggest upside simply allows you to write more in one document, which I can bypass since I can start multiple documents and coalesce them together later down the line in the form of .txt file.
Along with the script, I may also include character charts and interesting story pieces about the small world I am about to build. It is interesting to read about these characters in a script along with a chart of their both physical and mental progression on the side. Although I am inept at drawing human beings, I may get help from artists to help me definitely realize some characters for all to see. I am still on the nose about this part however.
